Staining banknotes
Intelligent Banknote Neutralisation Systems (IBNS) rely mainly on the technology of banknote staining. Banknotes are locked in electronically monitored containers. Their electronic components, different sensors and software in the containers enable them to permanently control their status, automatically and immediately degrading their contents in the event of an anomaly or break-inattempt.

Unwashable
The degradation process includes a discharge of ink in the container permanently staining the contents with an indelible ink. EURICPA Member companies use indelible dyes with irreversible and easy identifiable staining. Most inks used are approved by official laboratories and users : LNE, BNB, ICECON…

A Stained Banknote = probably a Stolen Banknote
The legal status of stained banknote ensures that stained banknotes are not reintegrated into the cash cycle. EURICPA Members cooperate with the European Central Bank and Organisations such as Banknote Watch and Vigie Billet to advise that a stained banknote is probably a stolen banknote.
